Sixteen-year-old Addison Hunnicutt faces assault charges after storming a football field and tackling a 13-year-old middle school player during a game in Winchester, Tennessee. The incident occurred on Tuesday night during a matchup between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School, hosted at Franklin County High School.
Tensions flared after South Middle School scored a touchdown and an extra point, prompting a brief scuffle between players on the field. Video footage showed Hunnicutt sprinting onto the turf, charging toward the 13-year-old South player, knocking him to the ground, and shoving him back down as he tried to stand up.

Hunnicutt said she rushed onto the field because she was tired of watching her younger brother endure rough play from rivals. She claimed a South player grabbed her brother by his facemask and spun him around, and that he later took a blow to the ribs.
Claims of unfair targeting
"That's when I started to be like, no, I'm done watching this," Hunnicutt told local news station NewsChannel 5. She added that she was not targeting the player without reason, saying, "That wasn't my intention at all. Seeing what they were doing to him and no one stopping it, that kind of made me the last choice. Somebody has to stop this."

Hunnicutt's mother, Elizabeth Chumbley, expressed mixed feelings over the confrontation. Speaking to television station WTVF, Chumbley said she did not condone her daughter jumping the fence, but echoed claims that her son was being targeted unfairly on the field.
"I made sure she understood quickly that her behavior, that was inappropriate, and you should not have jumped over the fence," Chumbley told WTVF. "I'm seeing my son on the ground being attacked. This wasn't just a football play. This is him on the ground being physically attacked by this other player."

Criminal charges and school bans
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has charged the 16-year-old with assault and disorderly conduct following the altercation. Winchester, located in southern Tennessee, serves as the county seat of Franklin County, where local law enforcement responded to the incident.
Following the criminal charges, Hunnicutt was served with a lifetime trespass ban from all Franklin County Schools properties. Additionally, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, the governing body for middle and high school sports across the state, barred her from attending any athletic events involving Cornersville Middle School.
Response from tackled player's family
A man claiming to be the father of the tackled 13-year-old boy commended his son's conduct during the altercation. In a statement posted on Facebook, Brandon Taylor described his son as a "true gentleman" who showed composure during the event.
"He had every reason to be angry, yet he still showed restraint," Taylor wrote. He added that his son did not deserve to be tackled, pushed, or humiliated on the field, writing: "He is a 13-year-old child, and I will always stand up for him and protect him."
