American soprano Nadine Sierra and Spanish tenor Xabier Anduaga will return to Santo Domingo to perform alongside the National Symphony Orchestra in the Great Performers Gala at the National Theatre.
The concert, titled the Margarita Copello de Rodríguez Great Performers Gala, brings both opera singers back to the Dominican Republic after their scheduled performance last year was suspended due to Tropical Storm Melissa.
Under the direction of conductor José Antonio Molina, the performance will feature a varied musical program designed to showcase the voices of both soloists across contrasting classical repertoires.
Opera repertoire and Spanish zarzuela
The concert program includes selections from major opera composers, featuring works by Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, Charles Gounod, Gaetano Donizetti, and Giacomo Puccini. The evening will also incorporate pieces from traditional Spanish zarzuela as well as numbers from the Broadway theatrical repertoire.

Zarzuela is a traditional Spanish lyrical genre that combines vocal music, spoken dialogue, and dance, while the operatic selections represent key romantic and bel canto masterworks from 19th- and early 20th-century European composers.
Tribute to foundation co-founder
The event is organized jointly by the Sinfonía Foundation and the Friends of the National Theatre Foundation. It serves as a tribute honoring the memory of Margarita Copello de Rodríguez, who was a co-founder and honorary president of the Sinfonía Foundation.
Sierra and Anduaga are internationally recognized performers on the classical stage, while Molina serves as the principal conductor of the Dominican Republic's flagship orchestra. The Sinfonía Foundation is a long-standing Dominican arts organization that promotes classical music and cultural programming.
