A Russian woman has been detained in the Lugansk People's Republic on suspicion of justifying terrorism through a comment left under an online video, regional law enforcement authorities said.
The regional investigative management of the Investigative Committee of Russia told news outlet Lenta.ru that the suspect, a resident of the Starobelsk municipal district, faces criminal charges under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to investigators, the woman published a post on her personal page on a social network banned in Russia. The publication allegedly featured military personnel belonging to a terrorist community, alongside a comment written beneath a video recording.
A formal linguistic and psychological examination conducted during the inquiry concluded that the materials contained indications of justifying the actions of a member of a terrorist community, as well as justifying the activities of an organization designated as terrorist under Russian law.
Law enforcement officers have placed the suspect in detention while investigators work to gather and consolidate evidence for the prosecution.
Legal framework and regional enforcement
Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code penalizes public calls for terrorist activity, as well as the public justification or propaganda of terrorism conducted through mass media or telecommunication networks, including the internet. Convictions under the provision can result in substantial monetary fines or prison terms.
Russian authorities banned several major foreign social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, following their classification as extremist organizations in 2022. State security services and law enforcement agencies regularly monitor digital communications and public groups across digital networks to identify prohibited content.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation serves as the chief federal investigative authority, handling high-profile criminal cases, state security offenses, and counter-terrorism inquiries. Law enforcement authorities expanded the agency's regional presence into eastern Ukraine following the annexation of the Lugansk People's Republic and three other regions in late 2022.
Starobelsk, also known as Starobilsk, is an administrative center in the northern part of the Lugansk region. Russian authorities previously reported related enforcement actions in the area, including the sentencing of a Russian citizen who received a long prison term for administering a Ukrainian channel.
