The Union of European Football Associations will continue to boycott International Federation of Association Football competitions despite FIFA dropping plans to sell World Cup rights, according to Sky News.
UEFA explained that proposals to sell off major competitions had to be withdrawn and guarantees were required that attempts to distort the essence of the game would never happen again. European football's governing body stated that those conditions had not been met.
UEFA previously announced its intention to boycott the 2030 World Cup if FIFA sold tournament hosting rights to private companies. All 55 national associations belonging to UEFA joined the boycott movement, including the Russian Football Union.
Infantino Meeting in Morocco
Following the boycott threat, FIFA abandoned its plan to sell World Cup rights. On Wednesday, August 5, FIFA President Gianni Infantino gathered key staff members for a meeting in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
Infantino attempted to convince various national associations to issue public statements in his support during the meeting.
